Pocahontas

Pocahontas stands 24” in height. Her
entire body is carved from solid maple and stained a darker color. Her face and
moccasins have been hand painted by either Tania Xenis or Ross Adams. She has
three ball and spring joints in each arm and one joint in her neck.
Dressed in soft suede leather, the dress is hand beaded and her
fringed cape drapes elegantly over her shoulders. To finish off her
outfit she has a beautiful hand-beaded leather headband. Her
accessories include a traditional medicine bag and a dream catcher.
These accessories have been made for Xenis by our local first
nations The Stone People of the Xa:ytem Longhouse Interpretive
Centre.
According to legend, hanging a dream catcher near a sleeping person causes the bad dreams to be caught in the web, while the dreams enter through the hole in the middle and drift down the feathers to the sleeping person. Then in the morning, sunlight enters through the hole to melt the bad dreams away.
