Introduction:
In
1986/87 I modeled a porcelain mermaid measuring 1.70 m (5'7").
Her appearance and scale make her a unique work of art. I have been
toying with the idea of making porcelain miniature mermaids for the last
few years. But now that I have my little grandson Ruben, the
mermaids have turned into Sea Babies. They are sweet enough to eat.
When you look at them, playing in their magical sea, where there’s so
much to enjoy, you’ll probably notice that their little baby fishtails
are in constant motion. And that’s really the case, because they
waggle, they twist and move up and down. The Sea babies are truly
unique and very special.
Whether you wear them around your neck as an unusual piece of jewelry or
you hang them somewhere else – they will always brighten up your
mood.
The Sea Babies are 11.5 cm (4 1/2") small and you can choose from
wonderful metallic colours.
I have fixed antique tulle with a hand-twisted silk cord to the baby
fishtail and the neck. All silk cords are hand-dyed in Paderborn.
Two tiny shells are fixed to either end of the cords. When I
modeled them, I was hardly able to hold them between my fingers –
that’s how small they are. In order for you to be able to wear
them around your neck we threaded hand-twisted silk cords through their
little shell caps. Their hair is made of mohair, which is dyed in a
colour to match the baby.
Enjoy the beautiful pictures and plunge into the secret world of the
playful Sea Babies.
Yours faithfully,
