The Doll Poet, Ruth Treffeisen and her fairytale dolls...

Since 1997, when doll artist Ruth Treffeisen was preparing for a great special sole exposition in a museum in southern Germany in which she wanted to show many scenes from various fairytales with some of her one of a kinds, she is deriving much pleasure from creating fabulous characters. This gives her the opportunity to include historic and ethnic elements in her work and to enrich it with selected materials and traditional techniques. In 1998, she started to manufacture her fairytale dolls in small series, which she also offers retailers in the whole world. With the fairytale "The Snow Queen" Ruth Treffeisen associates a persona. Many years ago the doll artist bought a wide lace interwoven with silver and decided to create a Snow Queen some time and use this material for it. In 2005, it's 200 years ago that Danish fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen was born and this was a welcome reason for Ruth Treffeisen to stage her own Show Queen together with Kay and Gerda. The fairytale "The Snow Queen" of H.C. Andersen is about two children who are good friends and live next door in the wintry hinterland of Lappland, where the Snow Queen reigns in unspoilt nature. When meeting her in the depth of the woods, Kay forgot that his parents had forbidden him to look in the Snow Queen's eyes - he is too spellbound by her appearance. The Snow Queen takes Kay with her into her icy kingdom and so his heart froze from cold. But Gerda saves her friend and proves that love and friendship are stronger than death.

Ruth Treffeisen has equipped her Snow Queen with truly royal attributes; the white porcelain has a rare, iridescent glaze, which gives her skin a frosty shimmer and underlines her steely gray eyes. On her head she has a crown that has been handcrafted in shape and color for her and also served as a sample crown for the famous "Opera Ball of Vie". Her dress is a white dream of dupioni silk taffeta wrapped in tulle, and opulently embroidered with small and large Swarowsky stones. Over this, the beautiful sovereign is wearing a wide cape of velvet and silk, decorated with a broad originally Venetian interwoven with silver. Her shoes have been made to order by a shoemaker. This Snow Queen is from head to toe an impressive figure and you will be completely spellbound by her appearance - just as little Kay is... Her wig is hand-knotted of human hair and so are her eyelashes. Her steely gray glass eyes are thoroughly handcrafted. Her body is stuffed with sheep's wool and in order to be able to decorate the doll in various positions, it has been equipped with a flexible skeleton inside. All dolls are manufactured in Germany.

Kay is wearing a gray woolen suit with a linen shirt underneath. His hat and scarf are from real sheep's wool and colored with a saffron yellow natural dye. His wig and eyelashes are knotted from human hair. His genuine leather shoes, woolen socks and glass eyes are thoroughly handcrafted. His body is stuffed with sheep's wool and in order to be able to decorate the doll in various positions it has been equipped with a flexible skeleton inside.

Over her checkered winter dress, Gerda is wearing a hand knitted cardigan of the finest wool, made in the traditional Allgau style with lavish cable patterns and a matching hat. Her wig and eyelashes are knotted from human hair. Her leather shoes, woolen socks and glass eyes are thoroughly handcrafted. Her body is stuffed with sheep's wool and in order to decorate the doll in various positions, it has been equipped with a flexible skeleton inside.
